Cursed!

Galatians 3:10
All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”

Cursed, cursed, cursed is the man or woman who does not continue to do all things that are written in the book!
This means a person is cursed if even a part of their salvation is by keeping the law. Think about that for second you are cursed if even one percent of your salvation is done by maintaining the law and not by faith alone.

This is how serious God is about salvation and faith alone and He wants to leave no doubt in our minds. You are not saved by the works of law. Some us at times measure our salvation based on how will we keep the law, kind of like a daily contest to see if we are producing enough righteousness. Again to this the Bible says it is by faith alone in Christ alone.

This scripture is saying that if we are trying to be righteous we must maintain the whole law and not just part of it. This Scripture is really great for showing anyone who believes that trying to be righteous by the Law or partly being righteous by the Law and Christ finishing off the the tank of righteousness that they are cursed. The problem is they have to maintain the entire law and as the scripture here says to continue doing so in order to be righteous in God’s sight. To continue doing so is an ongoing activity without break, rest, time out or fault. You know this Scripture here is a wonderful way to cast light on the impossible situation of the person who believes they must try their best to obtain righteousness. Recently a friend of mine told me that she was speaking to someone and this person said that if you do not maintain the Sabbath that you are not saved. To this person I would point out one little tiny word that will hang him in verse 10 it says, “Everything”. You must not only maintain the Sabbath but you must also not: lie, not steal, not commit adultery, not covet, you must not do all of these thing all the time. That is why our hope in Christ is so great because of the “Everything” we must do to be righteous.

Recently I have been asking people to rate themselves on a scale of good to bad. It is really interesting to see what people rate themselves out. The Bible says that ,”most men will proclaim their own goodness.” I was talking on Sunday afternoon to a 15 years old girl from Africa. I asked her to rate herself on the scale and she said that she was about 75% good. I said to her,”let me ask you this question, you said you’re 75% good that means you only need about 25% Jesus in order to get to heaven? Correct.” This kind of shocked her because she said she was good and yet she knew she needed more than 25% of Jesus. So they looked at the law for a few minutes and she saw that she was a sinner. She saw maybe for the 1st time the dirtiness of her sin before God. It is interesting that she told me that she was saved at 11 years old but it seemed that she did not have a clear view of her standing before God. We asked her if she wanted to pray and she said she did so she prayed and asked God to forgive her and save her. What is amazing is that I did not lead her in a prayer or even tell her really what to say. It was one of the sincerest prayer of salvation I have ever heard in my life.
